 | Welcome | Nov 1, 2005 |
This morning when I wakened And saw the sun above, I softly said, "Good morning, Lord, Bless everyone I love." Right away I thought of you And said a loving prayer, That He would bless you specially, And keep you free from care. I thought of all the happiness A day could hold in store, I wished it all for you because No one deserves it more. A pray to show you how much I care Love always grows when you generously share So please take a moment to pass on this gift, and watch all the hearts you will soon uplift. Those dear to YOUR heart! 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.' Philippians 4:13 --- The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success. HAVE A BLESS DAY....... As written and presented by Mary Whelchel
When you feel the earth shaking beneath you, either figuratively or actually, remember that God is still sovereign. He hasn't lost control of this world.
In fact, he often uses earthquakes to achieve his purposes. Remember that on the day Jesus died on Calvary a great earthquake shook the whole city, and that earthquake split the curtain of the temple from top to bottom. That curtain in the temple had hidden God from the people. No one was allowed to enter into that holiest place, except the high priest once a year to offer sacrifices for sin.
But when Jesus died for us, God sent an earthquake to split that curtain, and now we are able to go directly into God's presence. He used an earthquake a few days later to open the tomb where Jesus was buried. And our risen Lord came out of that tomb, as the earthquake shook the foundations. Because he's alive, we know that death has been conquered and no longer can have victory over us. Praise God for that earthquake.
And then we read in Acts 16 how God sent an earthquake to shake the foundations of the prison where Paul and Silas were held, after being beaten and flogged. They were in the innermost cell, carefully watched, with their feet fastened in stocks, but that cell and those chains couldn't withstand God's earthquake. It broke the chains and opened all the doors of the prison, and as a result, Paul and Silas were free and they led the jailer to Christ.
So, sometimes God uses earthquakes to perform miracles for us. Maybe you need an earthquake miracle today, something to break your chains and open the doors of your prison cell. God is able to do that for you.
Rejoice today, even though the foundations of our earth and our world seem to be crumbling around us; rejoice that you are headed for a city with a sure foundation. Praise God that he controls the earthquakes, and he is sovereign. So, even when the earth shakes beneath your feet, you can rest certain that you are in the arms of the Almighty God, who is unshakable, who never changes, who cannot be moved. Believe me, you are in good hands, the everlasting hands of God.
Psalm 16:8 is a good verse to remember:
'I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.'
- Today's Verse
Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.
— Psalm 86:6-7 (NIV)
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Sometimes there are no immediate answers. We have prayed and cried and tried and gone sleepless and mourned and shouted. Still there are no answers. The days roll by in an agonizing parade of pain. Still there are no answers we can identify. What do we do? We go to the Psalms. We let them raise up our heart's cry. We are honest with the God of the entire universe and yet we can still anticipate mercy from him. We are convinced that in our troubles, he will not only hear us, but he will also care about what is happening in our lives.
My Prayer...
Almighty God, the only true Healer of disease and Mender of broken hearts, please hear the cry today of those I love who are in such desperate situations. May your will be done in every one of their lives with tenderness, grace, and a sense of your presence. And Lord, please be near me, and help me see your answer to my prayers. Forever yours in the name of Jesus. Amen.
From Verse of the Day
- Enjoy the experience...
There is a beautiful universe all around us, and yet we often fail to truly experience it because we're too busy thinking about it and making judgments about it. Thought and judgment are certainly useful and valuable, yet it's also useful to regularly give them a rest. Stop the noise in your mind for a moment and simply experience what is. When a thought starts to pop up, just let it go. Enjoy how it feels to drink in the beauty of your existence for a while without thinking about it or making judgments about it. Clear you mind for a moment and know the depth of serenity that comes when you have the confidence and faith to just let yourself be.
Each day you put forth an enormous amount of effort to build and maintain a life for yourself. So spend some time truly enjoying and experiencing that life. You work to make it good, so live the joy and beauty of it.
Regularly take time to enjoy and appreciate the wonderful, beautiful, miraculous fact that you're experiencing life, right here and now. The more fully you appreciate and enjoy what you have, the better it will become.

 | Musical prophet: Gil Scott-Heron rest in peace I received the sad news today that poet/musician Gil Scott-Herion passed away unexpectedly at the too-young age of 62. If you know his music, you know what a loss this is. If not, you've been missing something remarkable. THIRTY YEARS ago, he wrote a song that precisely predicted where we'd be today based on our "choice" of Ronald Ray-Gun for president in 1980. WEDNESDAY’S WORD
He’s Risen…Now What?
For some Easter is officially over. Back to school and work. We broke the fast on Sunday with sumptuous meals and all the food or behaviors from which we had abstained for the last 40 days. Hey, not so fast. If those 40 days are to be meaningful, why not do a self check? Would you be better off without cigarettes? Alcohol? Fried foods? Sweets? You know the answers.
For those who adopted new behaviors—should you give up exercising? Drinking more water? Controlling your anger? Listening more? Again, you know the answers. These, of course, are only the social events in our lives. Easter is not really over. In fact it is just beginning.
It’s a new day. We have a new start. It’s a time for us to start over and be grateful, simply grateful that God loved us so much he sent his Son to die for us. It’s a time when we can share our faith because of all the prophets and the great people who are revered in other religions, Christ is the only one who is not buried in a tomb somewhere, but alive forever!
As we follow Christ through his resurrection and appearance to his disciples (Matthew 28:16-20; Mark 16:14-18; Luke 24:36-53; John 20:19-29) we see that he left us work to do. Now is not the time to slouch, to slack off, to become slothful and lazy. Now is the time to proclaim, even more than before, that the Gospel is Good News. News that bears repeating. Jesus himself said so:
“Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.” Matthew 28:19, 20, CEV.
“…teach them to do everything I have told you…” What has Jesus told us? Maybe now might be a good time to begin reading through the Bible or joining that Bible study group you’ve been putting off, or witnessing to a neighbor. Yes, Easter is not over. It is just beginning…
Prayer: Lord, we cannot do anything or say anything that can adequately thank you for your sacrifice on Calvary. We come only with hearts of gratitude and lips filled with praise. In all our strivings, never let us take your love for granted, but put us on the path to living a more holy fulfilled life. Amen.

 | It's been a while since we had some humor on Brasscheck. Here's something timely.... You might have heard about the young lady (?) at UCLA who after the Tsunami went on a YouTube rant about how annoying she finds her Asian classmates to be. The video went viral and has been seen by millions of people now and has been re-posted in so many places there's no taking it back. Many people took great offense at Little Miss Racist. Here's a guy who answered her idiocy the right way: with humor and gentle ridicule. http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/1066.html- Brasscheck |

clas1700 wrote on Feb 7, '11, edited on Feb 7, '11 Ways To Stay Stressed Are you worried now about how to stay stressed? You'll have no trouble if you practice the following clinically proven methods:
NEVER EXERCISE. Exercise wastes a lot of time that could be spent worrying.
EAT ANYTHING YOU WANT. Hey, if cigarette smoke can't cleanse your system, a balanced diet isn't likely to.
GAIN WEIGHT. Work hard at staying at least 25 pounds over your recommended weight.
TAKE PLENTY OF STIMULANTS. The old standards of caffeine, nicotine, sugar, and cola will continue to do the job just fine.
GET RID OF YOUR SOCIAL SUPPORT SYSTEM. Let the few friends who are willing to tolerate you know that concern yourself with friendships only if you have time, and you never have time. If a few people persist in trying to be your friend, avoid them.
PERSONALIZE ALL CRITICISM. Anyone who criticizes any aspect of your work, family, dog, house, or car is mounting a personal attack. Don't take time to listen, be offended, then return the attack!
MALES AND FEMALES ALIKE - BE MACHO. Never ever ask for help, and if you want it done right, do it yourself!
BECOME A WORKAHOLIC. Put work before everything else, and be sure to take work home evenings and weekends. Keep reminding yourself that vacations are for sissies.
DISCARD GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS. Schedule in more activities every day than you can possibly get done and then worry about it all whenever you get a chance.
PROCRASTINATE. Putting things off to the last second always produces a marvelous amount of stress.
WORRY ABOUT THINGS YOU CAN'T CONTROL. Worry about the stock market, earthquakes, the approaching Ice Age, you know, all the big issues.
BECOME NOT ONLY A PERFECTIONIST BUT SET IMPOSSIBLY HIGH STANDARDS......and either beat yourself up, or feel guilty, depressed, discouraged, and/or inadequate when you don't meet them.
THROW OUT YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR. Staying stressed is no laughing matter, and it shouldn't be treated as one.
